ENGLISH..ENGLISH

How to improve my english? A question that I always ask myself and the answer not easy to be done. Why? Well,I admit I'm quiet lazy. However, this is some way to improve my english that I'm doing and will be doing.
Firstly my writing, I'm very weak in Grammar and sentence structure so in order to improve it, I read many articles and try to identify their sentence structure.For Grammar, I make an exercise in 'Vision of Grammar' but I'm still not finish yet. This is the basic to write. The other method is wide my vocabulary. I hope I can memorise at least 5 new words and make some sentences from them.
Next, reading. Besides from read a lot, I learn speed reading as in examination the time to answer is short. At first, it quiet difficult because it difference from normal reading but after try several times I found it is easy. The question in reading for IELTS for me is the hard one so when answer the question I apply critical thinking. Actually, I do not understand about critical thinking but I assume it is when we try to think hardly and think out of the box. I hope it is true.
Then, my listening. The problems that I noticed are the essence and some unfamiliar words. I can understand when the speaker is Malaysian but when it foreigner it vice versa. Listen to english song,and watch english movie are the method I use. Entertainment and the same time learning. I also watch BBC TV even I just understand some word. When I watch malay drama or movie, I read the subtitles as it can wide my vocabulary. IDEA website that miss Eliza suggest to my class is very helpful in understand some essence. Well, it really different in every country and places and I hope I can get well with it.
Lastly, speaking. I always speak to myself and I use english but when it comes to have conversation in English I cannot speak it out. Self-confident is what I lack right now. I try to speak confidently with other people. Another method is record my talk about the choosen topic. I had done it once and I will do it again after this.
All this method I had try and will try. I hope after this I can write well, understand English article and conversation also speak English fluently. Wish me goodluck

MY EID EXPERIENCE

Ramadhan past like a blink of eyes and Syawal come bring the happiness.
October 11, I return to my house in Pahang by car with my brother and brother-in-law. The highway not so busy. At time I arrived my sister busy with her 'biskut raya'.After breakfast, I heard loud sound from fire chracker and its like in a war but fortunately I was in Malaysia not Afghanistan. Before Isyak, we waited for an announcement and like many people guessed, eid on day after tomorrow.
The next day is the busiest day. I help my mother make 'rendang', 'serunding' and 'ketupat'. While waitin for ketupat, I baked chocolate cakes but my recip was missing so I just do it as I remembered. However my cakes not so delicious like before. That day I slept at 3 a.m because I bake 'baulu lapis'. Actually my mom asked my sister to bake it but my sister slept early and as there is no one else, I finished it by my own.
The big day had come. At my place after perform eid prayers, men will gathered(baraan) and visit from house to house. They read 'doa selamat' while visits the houses. After 'baraan', my mother and I visit neighbours' house. Eventhough, I didn't got 'duit raya' but I felt so happy because it foster my relationship with my neighbours beside they rare to see me at home as I live in hostel.
Second day of Syawal, I returned to my kampong at Selangor.The trip took about 6 hours. When we past Kuala Lumpur, for the first time I saw the roads not busy. My grandfather's house noisy with my relatives. In Selangor, there is also 'baraan' but the situation more excited than at my house. It happend for 2 days at Selangor but only one day at my place and the people join it also more than mine. First day of 'baraan' (second day of eid) for men while next day for women and the houses that they visit approximately 80 houses.
October 15, Besides of had lunch together, there is nothing to do. On evening, my sisters and I went for shopping at Sungai Besar town. The prices there cheaper than any other places. I get myself t-shirt, jeans and scarf. The town was busy. Next day, we prepared to get back to Pahang.Its really sad to leave kampong as I love the way they celebrate eid. Many people visit each other and even at 11 pm there is still relatives come to my grandpa house. The situation that no more in my place, Felda Chini Timur 01. I will miss this year eid celebration and I swear to myself every eid I will visit friends and relatives house and I will learn from my mothey how to make delicious 'rendang'.
Happy eid to all and for my family the memories of 2007 eid celebration will remain in my heart. Love you all!!

Space Development

When we talk about space, NASA will cross our mind. NASA ( National Aeronautics and space administration ) has great influence in space research and development. Before write this topic I browse to NASA page and I found that they have going so far and I am really suprised. It shows that I am not alert with world news. The latest news ( 21st Sept 2007 ) about NuSTAR (Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array). NASA want to restart the research about black hole and NuSTAR is the best instrument as it 500 times better in detecting black hole. Why they want to know about that scary thing? I had read before that black hole can absorb everything into it, isn't scary? Maybe, this is for knowledge sake.
Another news that attract my eyes to read it, is 'orphan' star ( pity star ). It must be very sad to become orphan in such a wide space. The truth is, that stars have been forming in a long tail of gas outside it parents galaxy. The number of stars was so unpredictable by astronomer because in order to form the star, it needs large amount of gas and dust. This news, however still in research so this is just the early hypothesis.
The last thing I want to share with you is about Virgo. I am Virgo girl because my birthday in this month. You can check my profile to confirm it. The Virgo cluster is the closest cluster to our Milky Way Galaxy and contains more than 100 galaxy with varies type ( spiral, elliptcals and irregular ). It pull our galaxy towards it because Virgo Cluster is so massive. However, I am really in doubt this cluster and horoscope. Honestly, sometimes I do believe what the horoscope state but how they predict it. Well, I will find out about this and of course I will share with you in the next post. See ya

Ehem...actually this is a new phase of my blog. Well, I try my best to write originally because before this, sincerely, I do copy-paste. It is not because I am lazy(maybe sometimes) but I am not so confident to write on my own. My English not so good and my grammar (uhh..sigh) very poor. First of all, I want to apologise if there is mistake in my writting and please don't be shy correct it by posting your comment. I am so eager for your comment. Thank you for read and do enjoying it. Education is a process of teaching, training and learning to improve knowledge and develop skills. Society misunderstand that education is only in school or college but the truth is any level of age need education. For this theme I want to touch about education for employee.
Nowadays many consultant that held a motivation program for this group. " We are professional so we don't need any motivator to lecture us", this is one of the dialog that always come out from the professional's mouth. Of course this is wrong opinion because everyone need motivation to make sure get a better life. A company make this programme to improve the quality of work fom their worker. It also to remind the employee their aim in their profession. Motivation very important but not only that, the other education for worker is workshop.
Workshop is for sharpen the employee skills especially when we talk about engineering or many else.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM

Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful to humans. It is important because it is needed for life to exist. All knows how important the water is. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water. Only 2.7% of water on the Earth is fresh water, and over two thirds of this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps, leaving only 0.007% available for human use. Fresh water is a renewable resource, yet the world's supply of clean, fresh water is steadily decreasing. Water demand already exceeds supply in many parts of the world, and as world population continues to rise at an unprecedented rate, many more areas are expected to experience this imbalance in the near future.
I dont want to touch about water pollution yet but now we concentrate at water resources :

• Surface water - water of a lake, river, or fresh water wetland. Naturally replenished by precipitation and naturally lost through discharge to the oceans, evaporation, and sub-surface seepage. Canada has the largest supply of fresh water in the world.
• Sub-surface water - fresh water located in the pore space of soil and rocks. It is also water that is flowing within aquifers below the water table.
• Desalination - Desalination is an artificial process by which saline water (generally ocean water) is converted to fresh water. The most common desalination processes are distillation and reverse osmosis. Desalination is currently very expensive compared to most alternative sources of water, and only a very small fraction of total human use is satisfied by desalination.
• Frozen water - Several schemes have been proposed to make use an iceberg as a water resource, however to date this has only been done for novelty purposes. Glacier runoff is considered to be surface water.

Even though water is renewable source but threats such as pollution, climate change, and depletion of aquifers will bring harm to all. One of the water pollutions are the oil spill. When the Exxon Valdez oil spill happened, many people were shocked and horrified. But the ship spilt 10.8 million gallons, almost nothing compared with as many as 428 million gallons for the Ixtoc I in Mexico and other less-known spills. Media coverage hardly proportionally to the totoal amount of damage done. The biggest oil spill when Ixtoc I ( 1979-1980 ) blow-out and 139 till 428 million gallons oill spill over the sea.

Different Aspect of Culture

The defination of culture are varies and in my opinion culture related to the way of life for the society. We can identify the society by looking at their lifestyle. As such it includes code of manners, dress, language, religion,ritual ,norm of behaviour such as law and molarity and systems of belief. A country can have many culture because of mix society. for instance, Malays in the same society but have many types of culture even the language or it is more accurate to say the essences are different.
Despite the great cultural diversity of Asian nations, there are, nevertheless, several transnational cultural influences. Though Korea, Japan, and Vietnam are not Chinese-speaking countries, their languages have been influenced by Chinese and Chinese writing. Many Asian religious and philosophical traditions originated in India and China and spread across Asia through cultural diffusion and the migration of peoples. Religions such as Hinduism and Islam have for hundreds of years exerted cultural influence on various peoples of South Asia.
Nowadays, every society struggle to make sure their ancestor culture still a part of their live which is difficult because some of them do not care about that.
Technology is the other factor that people think can destroy their culture. Positively, multimedia such as television, internet and radio can expose the culture to the member of the society that do not know also to others society. But, technology also bring trigger when the new generation get fanatic with tech-game and they start forget traditional game. The lifestyle also change.

Feminism vs Engineering

As a woman ( in transformation ) and as a student in engineering, I discover that in Malaysia it is still a rear thing. Society always identificate woman with a feminin job such as teacher, nurse, baby sitter etc. even after 50 years merdeka. When I maked my decision to study at Technical institute ( SM Teknik 1, Kuantan ) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, my brother object it. He thinks that woman is not fit with this job but I think it is unlogic opinion in modern world. Just like I expected, in my class there is only 9 girls and the rest are boys. The same circumtances in others class. I then realise that man when it comes about theory they are not so good but when we are doing our practical they are so great compared with woman. Someone said that is man power (Is it?) but I still stand with my principle that woman play a big role in engineering.
Why many woman still afraid in taking engineering as their profession? One of the accuse is they think it is unsuitable for them because this field need you to be tough not only phsically tough but also mental need to be tough. It is a stressful job with many works to do. Engineer always work outside and make overtime (busy) and this condition not suitable with the married woman. They have their own responsibilty to their family so as a woman I understand that every woman put their family as a their priority. The statistic show that engineer that resign early is a woman and the reason is to be a full time housewife. Beside that, as a engineer-to-be I donnot know any woman engineer that can become my idol. No inspiration at all.
Compared with woman in 5o years backward I think woman nowadays are so lucky because they get education, protection, accomodation and many others thing that our grandgrandmother lack of. All of this show that woman have get their right that the feminist had fight for. They know their right and bravely they shout it out. As a result they change woman socially. Woman's confident level and bravery increases also many woman become sassy. Involve in society and help our nation strive for excellence. This changes because of education and realisation.
I want to be an engineer but still my east (gadis melayu) attitude because how much woman progress and how tough they are better than man,they are still soft-hearted woman and tears still their weapon.

Money ( financial matter )

A piece of paper that valuable call money makes many people crazy. In a blink of eyes people become rich or poor and all because of money. It is very important to know how to manage it. As a first year student, it is my first time to manage my money. Well, now I realise how bad it is when you lack of money and at the same time you need it badly. There is many way to manage your budget :

• Plan your budgets by making a list - make a list when you go out for shopping and buy only essential things. You also need to make a list of money that you had spent in one day.
• Save all the coins - maybe coins is not so valuable for you but it will help you during your rainy day. Even 1 cent is valuable.
• Use your things that still can be use - don't throw it away and use it as long as you can.
• Saving your extra money - if you have extra money make sure you save it as your backup one day.
• Free yourself from debt - it helps you in that day but after you get money from your resource, you have to pay it back and of course it disturb your budgets.
• Don't easily get influence by friends - say 'no' to your friends if they make you spend your money for something unessential.
• Give if you have - the counselor believe if you borrowed your money to your friend out of your ability and if they don't pay back then the friendship will get strained.
• Compare price - take time to investigate in order to get lower price.

The way people live together and share of the world's resources

It is very important for citizen to share their country property in order to get zero poverty. Rich people have to share their wealthy with the poor people. Third world country always face this problem ; rich people become richer and poor people become poorer because of their government economics policy that unbalance. For instance India, we can see their rich people is very rich but there is still destitute people. It also happend in South Korea and any third world country. The rich people always doing investment outside and they always think about money despite of give a hand to the poor people. In the rank 5 of billionaire in this world is a India citizen. How can this happend? They have very rich people in this world and they also have poorest people.

Malaysia is a country that had faced the same problem before and to overtake this problem The Government of Malaysia has taken an active role in guiding the nation's economic development. Malaysia's New Economic Policy (NEP) first established in 1970 had decrease people under poverty line. It also helps Malaysia to limit the differentiate between people in the city and rural area. As we know people in rural area is a poor people but in NEP, Malaysia government tried to improve their lifestyle and their economics level. Besides that NEp aim to end the identification of economic function with ethnicity.

MENTAL HEALTH

As I wrote before, I am really interesting in mental health and as I promise I will write about that topic.
Mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. Even though many of us don't suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder, it is clear that some of us are mentally healthier than others. The study of the characteristics that make up mental health has been called "positive psychology."In order to get a healthy brain, we can go several things such as sudoku,crossword,chess and others game that fun yet challenge our brain.We have to get involve in many things and try new experiences because it helps us in gaining knowledges and give our brain a brand new things to think.
In USA there is afew research in characteristic of mental health.Thi is the short list of mental health's characteristic :
i)The ability to enjoy life - The practice of mindfulness meditation is one way to cultivate the ability to enjoy the present.We need to plan our future but learn from the past and also donotmiserable our life by worrying about the future.
ii)Resilience (The ability to bounce back from adversity- People that can cope with the stress better than other.Rudyard Kippling has said that we need to treat our triumph and disaster as the same.
iii)Balance - The balancing between social life and time spent alone are very important. If someone always been alone, he or she will lose many of their social skills.
iv)Flexibility - People who hold very rigid opinion will set themselves up for added stress. Emotional flexibility maybe just as cumpolsary as cognitive flexibility. Mental healthy people have range of emotion and they allow themselves express their feeling.
All this characteristic show us how important mental health for us but it doesnot mean we have to ignore physical health.If you are in sedentary life you need to change because that way of life will give you great vicious.

New Theme

Today, I am doing research on my new theme.It is very great theme because it is related to our life.People always think that exercise just about their physical fitness but they don't realise our brain need exercise too.I will focus more in braib exercise and health in my next post.Hope you like it.

Courses in PPOU

I am in the foundation program at Preparatory Program for Overseas university.All the subject is just a fuondation and we evev didn't touch anything about our subject in pra-graduate.Those subjects are Chemistry ,Physic ,Mathematics ,IELTS ,Academic Study Skill and English.It is like our SPM but tougher and of course the language is different.I need to remember the term in physic and mathematic also the element in chemistry.What Ireally love about those subjects are the lecturers.They are kind and helpful.In my class we have student that get scholarship from MOE(majority) and FELDA.Felda is my sponsorship (not easy to get).
This circumtances at Uniten especially in my class is quite bizarre because my friends very hardworking and it makes me realise I cannot be cool as cucumber anymore like I did in my secondary school.All my new friends here came from the best school around Malaysia.The majority was from MRSM and SBP.I start crack the books and notes that my lecturers gave me in my first day.I dont want to disappoint my scholarship(FELDA),family and of course myself.

First experience in UNITEN-campus life

When I step in UNITEN,my first impression about this U is beautiful.Even it near the town but I'm still can felt fresh environment.31st July (registration day),I got new friends. Farah is my roommate while Adibah and Sapura are my housemate. They are so kind and I felt like we had known each other for along time. I start my orientation week at 1st July. Actually I don't like orientation but experience it in the UNITEN make I change my mind. Orientation is great thing. The activities is quite interesting such as LDK,tour around campus and talk session. Even I had to walk everyday to the hall but it's ok for me because i didnot do exercise since I ended my trainng in national service. I'm quite lazy to do exercise-bad habit (dont be like me). Why I love my orientation? It is because I had many funny friends (always naughty) and The Best Fasilitator ever- K.Shique,K.Nana,A.Joe and last but not least A.Bob (FC for my group). They are kind and very supporting.
